I threw this piece to emphasize the contrast between raw and refined surfaces. The weight of the form rests heavily on the unglazed foot, which provides a satisfying, granular texture when you hold it. The body swells gently, drawing the eye up to the narrow neck that then opens wide, ready to hold a single stem or a small cluster of dry reeds. The Deep Cypress glaze settles into a rich, shadowed color, like wet earth under a dense canopy, highlighting the sharp defining line where the raw clay begins.
